Haiti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, and his counterpart from the Republic of Benin, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, signed a five-year renewable memorandum of understanding on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. This agreement aims to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two nations and deepen their cooperation on both bilateral and international issues.

The signing follows a meeting held the previous day, Tuesday, January 7, 2025, between the two foreign ministers, alongside a historic CARICOM-Benin summit. Discussions focused on strategic priorities and enhancing bilateral ties.

The memorandum of understanding centers on political and diplomatic consultations, formalizing both countries’ commitments to collaborate closely. It reflects their shared determination to address contemporary challenges and build a common future grounded in mutual goals and interests.

Beyond political consultations, Haiti and Benin have agreed to prioritize cooperation in key sectors, including diplomacy, security, education, culture, and scientific research. This partnership is designed to foster meaningful exchanges and promote mutual development in these critical areas.

This new strategic agreement also positions both nations to respond more effectively to global challenges, particularly in regional security, access to quality education, and the promotion of cultural exchanges. United by shared values, Haiti and Benin are dedicated to advancing stability, peace, and prosperity for their respective peoples.
