A significant shift occurs in Haiti as Fritz Alphonse Jean steps into his role as President of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT).
On Friday, March 7, 2025, he officially commenced his duties, taking over from Leslie Voltaire as stipulated in the October 4, 2024 resolution regarding the rotating presidency. His leadership of the CPT will continue until August 7, 2025.
The handover ceremony was conducted at Villa d’Accueil, with attendees including Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, cabinet officials, senior military and police commanders, and diplomatic corps representatives.
In his farewell remarks, Leslie Voltaire warmly welcomed his successor’s appointment. He portrayed the rotating presidency as evidence of political advancement, noted the CPT’s achievements in security measures, constitutional changes, and electoral processes, and assured his continued backing of Fritz Alphonse Jean.
“The CPT continues to advance positively, and I am confident my successor will maintain our momentum for national progress,” he declared.
During his inaugural speech, Fritz Alphonse Jean acknowledged his predecessor’s contributions and confirmed his dedication to sustaining the existing reform agenda. He stressed the importance of national cohesion in addressing security concerns and revealed specific plans, including the addition of 3,000 personnel to both the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H) and National Police (PNH)—a crucial step toward combating criminal gangs and violence.
“We must unite now to defeat insecurity. Every necessary resource will be mobilized to protect all Haitian citizens,” the incoming CPT president stated.
Additionally, he committed to enhancing the CPT’s public outreach, implementing practical solutions to enhance citizens’ quality of life.
Against a backdrop of political instability, the Transitional Presidential Council faces the crucial task of rebuilding public confidence and establishing enduring stability.
Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé supported the transition, expressing trust in Fritz Alphonse Jean’s leadership capabilities.
“Our administration urges all Haitians to recognize that unity and solidarity are essential for overcoming our obstacles and creating tomorrow’s Haiti—a robust, secure, and genuinely democratic nation,” he stated.
This declaration underscores the administration’s determination to tackle present difficulties and forge a more stable and prosperous future.
