The National Confederation of Haitian Workers (CNOHA) has sent a letter to the Director General of the Social Assistance Fund (FAES), Paul Harry Voltaire, expressing concern over the non-payment of the promised social subsidy for workers in the textile sector.

In this letter, dated February 17, 2025, CNOHA highlights that many workers from companies in the West department—such as SISA, WIL BEST, MBI, CENTRI-GROUP, and others—have yet to receive the allocated funds, despite the decision made in October 2024. This delay has caused growing frustration among beneficiaries, who have been pressing their union representatives for explanations regarding the unexplained hold-up.

Beyond this frustrating wait, CNOHA warns of the increasing doubts among workers about the reliability of this social assistance program. The union is demanding an urgent meeting with FAES to:

  • Clarify the reasons for the delay in subsidy payments;
  • Obtain precise data on the number of workers still awaiting assistance;
  • Discuss the monitoring process and the effective implementation of the government’s social commitment.

A copy of the letter was also sent to several officials in the labor and social protection sectors, including the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, George Wilbert Franck, the Director of Labor, Guerline JN Louis, as well as various representatives of national and international organizations involved in defending workers’ rights.

So far, FAES has not provided an official response. However, under pressure from CNOHA and labor unions, textile workers hope for a swift resolution to this situation, which directly impacts their living conditions and purchasing power.

To be continued.
