Less than an hour after announcing his decision not to seek re-election in the next presidential election, President Joe Biden has decided to endorse his Vice President as his presidential candidate.
In a statement on his X account, President Biden expressed his deep conviction that Vice President Harris has the ability to lead the country.
“Today, I want to give Kamala my full support and endorsement to be our party’s nominee this year. Democrats, it’s time to unite and beat Trump. Let’s do it,” wrote the 46th US president, adding that ‘…I have decided not to accept the nomination and to devote all my energy to my duties as president until the end of my term,’ he declared, recalling that he had not hesitated at any time when it came to choosing Kamala Harris as vice president in 2020. “My very first decision as the party’s nominee in 2020 was to choose Kamala Harris as vice president. And it was the best decision I ever made,” wrote Joe Biden.
The statement not only underscores Biden’s support for Harris, but also serves as a call to action for unity within the party as they face a challenging election cycle.
President Biden’s call was very well received by the Democratic Party establishment.
Several high-ranking members of the Democratic Party have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as their presidential candidate.
This is also the case for the Clinton family, who issued a statement supporting Kamala Harris’s candidacy. “We join millions of Americans in thanking President Biden for all he has accomplished, standing up for America time and time again, his North Star always what’s best for the country. We are honored to join the President in supporting Vice President Harris and will do everything in our power to support her,” Bill Clinton wrote on his Twitter account.

Other prominent party members also threw their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy.
The former Attorney General of the State of California will have the heavy responsibility of reunifying the Democratic Party and rallying delegates to her cause at the Democratic convention in around two weeks’ time.
Kamala Harris is now expected to seek a running mate as a vice-presidential candidate.
