June 20, 2023 – July 20, 2023: It has been a month since thugs kidnapped Pierre-Louis Opont.

Despite the payment of a ransom, the kidnappers remain uncompromising and continue to blackmail.

His sister, Marie Justine Opont, who was also kidnapped on June 12th, demands the immediate release of Télépluriel’s co-owner.

“It has already been a month since they kidnapped my brother, Pierre-Louis Opont. There is no way to collect the demanded amount. We have already paid what we could gather since July 14th. Despite everything, we still don’t have our brother with us,” lamented Marie Justine Opont, emphasizing that her brother is not in good health. “As his sister, I am diabetic and have high blood pressure. This suffering is too much for the family. The children and all the family members are inconsolable. We graciously ask the kidnappers to release Pierre-Louis Opont,” cries Marie Justine Opont.

Due to health issues, Pierre-Louis Opont needs to take his medications regularly as he prepares for surgery. “It was only on July 14th, 26 days later, that the kidnappers agreed to receive the medications,” regretted Marie Justine Opont.

On the part of the state authorities, there is complete silence on this matter. No measures have been taken to facilitate the release of Pierre-Louis Opont, who dedicated his entire life to serving his country.

Last weekend, a sit-in was organized by press associations AJH and SOS journalists to demand the release of Télépluriel’s co-owner.

Former journalist at the National Television of Haiti, Pierre-Louis Opont is a certified public accountant. He is a member of the Order of Certified Professional Accountants of Haiti. He has served as the director-general and President of the Provisional Electoral Council. Pierre-Louis Opont has dedicated over fifty years of his life to public service.

Despite being in great difficulty, no one within the government seems willing to help facilitate his release to ease the pain of his anxious family.
