In Nuevo Laredo, there are more than 7,000 Haitian migrants waiting to cross into the United States in search of asylum. Most of them are in the 10 shelters that operate in this city, and the rest subsist in rented houses, hotels or on public roads.
Only in the Casa del Migrante Nazareth 1 and 2, 3000 Haitian migrants are taken care, mainly women and children, informed the priest Marvin Ajic Arana, director of the Casa del Migrante Nazareth.
In the Casa del Migrante Nazareth 1, located in the neighborhood of Victoria, 1,400 people are taken care of, who are housed – only 200 -, fed and provided with all personal hygiene items, said Ajic Arana.
Both in this shelter and in the Viveros neighborhood, priority is given to women and children. Their husbands must stay outside the shelter and only visit their families during the day, but they are fed.
In the Casa del Migrante Nazareth 2, there are 1600 people housed, 400 of whom receive food, clothing, personal hygiene items and medical consultations.
The priest assured that although they are not visible, many Haitians need help to cross this city.
“We have over 3,000 migrants in shelters. There are 10 in the city, so there are more than 4,000 Haitian migrants who are not seen, but are waiting to receive a clearer resolution after May 23,” he concluded.
