The United States Department of Homeland Security has added Haiti to the list of 6 new countries eligible for the work visa program.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Secretary of homeland security  Alejandro N. Mayorkas. “The Department of Homeland Security is committed to working with our interagency partners to ensure that businesses in the United States can fill temporary or seasonal jobs for which American workers are not available,” said Mr. Mayorkas.

Haitians can now apply for categories H-2A and H-2B. The other 5 countries added to the list are: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Republic of Cyprus, Dominican Republic only eligible for H-2A, Mauritius and Saint Lucia. Moldova was pulled from the program for failing to meet the program’s regulatory standards, according to DHS.

Details on the application procedures will be published on Wednesday in the Federal newspaper, according to a statement posted on the ministry’s website.
