Fernande Therogène, a young merchant, reported missing since Sunday, January 2, 2022 in Port-au-Prince, was found lifeless two days later. Her body was placed in a morgue by a police officer named Jhony Janvier. The latter, accused in this case of murder, would have informed the family members of the victim that he and Fernande Therogène had been attacked by armed individuals in Torcel. During this attack, Fernande received several projectiles and did not survive her injuries.
Without contacting the family members of the deceased beforehand, police officer Jhony Janvier made the necessary arrangements with the Pétion-Ville police station before depositing the body at the morgue.
Merchants in the commune of Pétion-Ville as well as members of her family are planning to organize a demonstration this Wednesday, January 26, 2022, to denounce the murder of Fernande Therogène and demand the arrest of the police officer Jhony Janvier.
According to the victim’s relatives, Fernande Therogène, who was selling at the market “La coupe” commonly called “mache kokoye”, went on Sunday, January 2, to deliver goods to the police officer in the Torcel area. Since that day, she has not returned until the discovery of her lifeless body, they lamented.
The explanations given by the police officer Jhony Janvier on the circumstances surrounding the death of Fernande Therogène have been trivialized.
The merchants invite the judicial authorities to look into this troubling case. For about a month after the death of the merchant, no investigation has yet begun.
