CTN News

As announced, several thousand people demonstrated in the streets of the capital on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the 1987 constitution. Young people, civil society representatives and political leaders were noticed on the tarmac. The main objective was to say no to the growing insecurity, especially kidnapping.

After the traditional ceremony, the demonstrators took the highway to Delmas. They wore t-shirts and carried signs with inscriptions denouncing insecurity, the high cost of living, and the interference of the U.S. government in the internal affairs of the country. This predominantly young public promised to continue with their demands until the de facto government of Ariel Henry brings a solution to the phenomenon of insecurity that reigns throughout the country.
Arriving at the crossroads of Delmas 32, the specialized units of the PNH imposed their force, to prevent the demonstrators from taking the direction of Pétion-ville. The protesters severely criticized the government, accused of having mobilized police officers to prevent them from demonstrating freely. They invited their compatriots to take responsibility for the scourge of kidnapping.

In lieu of Petion-ville, the demonstrators walked along the road to Delmas 32.

On the route, people living with disabilities were also noticed. It was an opportunity to demand their integration in all sectors of national life and to demand better security conditions.
They pleaded for the implementation of social programs including housing, accompaniment as stipulated in Article 38-8 of the Constitution. They called on the authorities to assume their responsibility towards disabled people by ensuring their protection.
The leader of the UNIR party Clarens Renois, accompanied by several members of his political bloc, took the opportunity to invite the political actors to get together to find a solution to the Haitian crisis. Ariel Henry is not the only one responsible for the country’s evil, noted the journalist turned politician.
In several regions of the country, there have been demonstrations of citizens who have expressed their dismay at the deterioration of the security situation.
The city of Cayes also demonstrated on Tuesday, March 29, 2021 against the climate of terror established in the country with the increase in acts of kidnapping and murder.
The demonstrators broke into the Antoine Simon air terminal. One person was fatally shot and a small humanitarian plane was partially burned.
In Jacmel, there were several hundred people shouting their anger against insecurity, kidnapping and the high cost of living, among others.
Traders and personalities from other sectors of the city said no to banditry while threatening to close the Jacmel airport.
This Tuesday, March 29, the activities of the city of Jeremie were virtually paralyzed on the occasion of the day of protest launched against insecurity by organizations of Haitian civil society. Stores, schools and public institutions were mostly closed.
No major incidents were recorded during the demonstration in Port-au-Prince, Jacmel and Jeremie, during this movement launched by civil society leaders but that politicians wanted to monopolize.
A successful day all the same in the opinion of the organizers who are pleased with the return in mass of the population through the streets. This has not been the case for some time.
Only in Cayes, an unfortunate incident occurred with the death of a citizen who was fighting for the respect of his rights. In addition to the destruction of the small humanitarian plane.
It should be noted that the fight against insecurity and kidnapping should not stop with a simple march. The population must organize itself better to counteract the armed bandits who destroy and decapitalize families.
