Classified documents affair: former president Donald Trump indicted on 7 counts

CTN News

Former President Donald Trump continues to make history in the United States.

He has just been indicted on 7 counts by the Justice Department as part of the investigation into classified documents in his possession.

The former head of state is due to appear before a judge in Florida next Tuesday.

The information was revealed by the man himself on his Truth Social platform.

“I’ve been indicted, apparently for the box hoax,” Mr. Trump posted on the Truth Social social media site. He claims to have been treated with bias in the case. “I never thought it possible that something like this could happen to a former president of the United States,” he said, before adding, “I am innocent! “I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!”

Donald Trump is accused of taking tons of classified documents with him as he left the White House at the end of his term. Despite numerous government requests he had refused to return the documents, according to the federal government.

The charges have not yet been made public by the Justice Department, which had appointed a special counsel to finalize the investigation due to Mr. Trump’s status as a candidate.

Donald Trump is also the subject of other federal and state investigations, notably in the states of Georgia and New York.

He is the first former president of the United States to have been indicted.

Donald Trump has been indicted while campaigning for the 2024 presidential elections, the year in which the trial is due to take place.

Mr. Trump has always maintained his innocence, accusing Joe Biden’s administration of a witch-hunt.
