While the United States is accused of having a share of responsibility in the Haitian crisis, the U.S. State Department seems annoyed by the positions taken by Joe Biden’s former special envoy on the current situation in Haiti.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has warned former Ambassador Daniel Foote not to discuss Haiti with the institution’s employees. It is the person concerned himself who confirmed the information.

In a tweet posted early Saturday, the former envoy said that “the State Department has advised me against talking to ‘officials. It seems that WHAAsstSecty
doesn’t want the truth or to do the right thing, that’s all we ask.”

The State Department’s warning does not seem to worry the diplomat, who continues to sound the alarm about the need for action to avoid a disaster in Haiti.

“The U.S. and donors have a chance to avert disaster and help #Haiti. Listen to the Haitian consensus and drop Dr. ArielHenry! Accountability!!!” tweeted Daniel Foote.

The message was very quickly deleted, but ZoomHaitiNews editorial staff had time to take a screenshot.

A letter was also sent to Mr. Foote by the State Department to formalize his warning, ZoomHaitiNews learned from a source close to the department.

Daniel Foote is very critical of his former employer with regard to the management of the crisis in Haiti. For him, the United States has a heavy responsibility in the situation that currently prevails in Haiti.

Appointed special envoy of the administration of Joe Biden in Haiti, Daniel Foote had submitted his resignation in September 2021 two months after his appointment, as a sign of protest against the inhumane treatment inflicted on Haitian immigrants who had arrived under the bridge of Del Rio in Texas last year, from South America.

“I will not associate myself with the inhumane and counterproductive decision of the United States to deport thousands of Haitian refugees and illegal immigrants to Haiti, a country where our public servants are confined to secure compounds due to the danger of armed gangs controlling daily life,” the diplomat had protested. He also deplored the fact that the U.S. administration ignored his recommendations regarding the Haitian crisis.

Since his early retirement as a sign of solidarity with the Haitian people, Mr. Foote is very present in the media and on social networks where he continues to urge the United States to change its policy in Haiti. A policy that does more harm than good to the Haitian people, he denounced.
