Former US President Donald Trump found guilty by a jury in New York

CTN News

For the first time in American history, a former president and presidential candidate has been found guilty.

Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts brought against him by the  New York district Attorney, Alvin Bragg.

The 12 members of the jury voted unanimously after two days of deliberation.

The trial lasted just over a month.

Donald Trump was accused of, among other things, violating campaign finance rules for paying Stormy Daniels $130,000 to cover up a story about an extramarital relationship with the porn star.

The judge presiding over the trial is expected to deliver his verdict on July 11.

Juan Merchan will decide whether Donald Trump should spend time in prison or simply perform community service.

It is highly unlikely that the Republican candidate will go to prison, given that he had a clean record up to that point.

With this verdict, Donald Trump goes down in history.

He is the first former US president to be convicted of a felony. He is also the first presidential candidate to be convicted by a jury.

Donald Trump is also the first and only American president to have been impeached by Congress twice.

The District of New York trial is not the only legal action taken against the now-criminal Trump. He is also the subject of more than 90 counts of indictments. Legal actions are currently pending against him in the states of Georgia, Florida and the District of Columbia in Washington.
