Many recently dismissed federal employees are expressing disappointment over their past support for Donald Trump in the last U.S. presidential election.

According to BuzzFeed, since February, the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, has fired more than 62,000 federal employees. Among those now unemployed, many were Trump voters who now regret their electoral choice.

This wave of layoffs has affected personnel across various federal institutions, including the Pentagon, USAID, the CIA, the Social Security Administration, as well as the Departments of Justice and Agriculture.

Paradoxically, as BuzzFeed highlighted while analyzing various social media reactions, many of these individuals had trusted Trump, believing he would protect their jobs and advocate for American workers.

On the LeopardsAteMyFace forum, where users share stories about the unexpected consequences of their political choices, several former federal employees have voiced their dissatisfaction:

  • A veteran, father, and longtime Trump supporter lost his job at the Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital after years of service. He admitted he never imagined facing such consequences.
  • A woman who proudly displayed a Trump campaign sign in her yard was “abruptly” dismissed from her administrative job without warning.
  • A young Trump supporter is now worried about their partner, the sole provider of their household, due to government job cuts.
  • A pro-Trump veteran is now calling for protests against these mass layoffs, denouncing what he sees as a betrayal of former military personnel.
  • A former General Services Administration employee, who once described himself as a “devoted Trump supporter,” is now seeking a career change.

Many of them now deeply regret their vote.

One former federal worker, after losing his job, admitted he wished he had supported Kamala Harris instead. Another, who had voted for Trump in the past three elections, is frustrated with the growing narrative that federal employees are “lazy and worthless.”

One of the most striking statements came from a recently fired Trump supporter, who harshly criticized the budget cuts: “They have no concern for the consequences of their actions,” as reported by BuzzFeed.

In additional testimonies gathered by BuzzFeed, several recently dismissed employees expressed remorse for not taking Kamala Harris’ warnings seriously. She had explicitly denounced Trump’s Project 2025, which outlined plans for mass layoffs of federal employees, whom MAGA supporters labeled as inefficient.

On social media, some users did not hesitate to mock these former employees, telling them to accept the consequences of their electoral choice.

“I didn’t vote for him, and now we’re all paying the price for the idiots who did. And their only excuse is that he lied to them? Duh! He’s been lying since he got into politics! WAKE UP, PEOPLE!” raged one user.

“It’s too bad voters ignored all the warnings about Trump. Now he’s put this idiot Musk in charge, slashing jobs left and right without even investigating where the real waste is,” commented another.
