A family tragedy has shaken the town of Milton, just outside Boston in the state of Massachusetts, on Friday evening. A woman and a man, who were in a relationship and shared a child, both of Haitian descent, died following a violent stabbing.

Authorities are treating the incident as a suspected murder-suicide, while announcing that an investigation is underway to shed light on the case.

According to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, the victims have been identified as Rose Lamour, a 28-year-old Milton resident, and Stanley Monteperousse, 35, who had recently been living in Florida. Both were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.

The incident occurred on Blue Hills Parkway around 7:30 p.m., after several 911 calls reported a violent altercation, according to NBC Boston.

Upon arrival, state police found both individuals seriously injured.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. Authorities have not yet indicated which of the two may have delivered the fatal blows. Autopsies are currently being conducted. No information has been released about their child — neither the age nor whether the child was present at the time of the incident, as reported by NBC Boston.

According to multiple sources, both individuals were of Haitian nationality.

Milton borders the neighborhood of Mattapan, home to one of the largest Haitian communities in the state of Massachusetts.
