The Institute for Governance Management and Policy Studies (IGGEP) held its first Governance Symposium in the Southeast Department on June 17-18, 2022.
An activity designed to reflect on the crisis of governance in Haiti. This activity took place in the multipurpose room in Lamandou with several speakers with expertise in various fields including governance, economics, health, diplomacy.
Reverend Marcky Kessa, who holds a doctorate in Divinity from Liberty Bible College and a Master’s degree in Theology, spoke on religion, governance and welfare. The current president of the Jacmel City Council advocated for the accession of honest and competent people to decision-making positions at the highest levels of the country.
He attributes the current chaotic situation to bad governance.
The symposium is an opportunity for young scholars to understand the choices they will have to make in the upcoming elections. The youth will learn that good governance is one of the possibilities for the country to move forward, believes the acting executive officer. He also emphasized the need for a policy of decentralization of the country, deploring that the country has been too long reduced to the Republic of Port-au-Prince.
For his part, the former deputy of Marigot, Deus Deroneth, one of the leaders of the IGGEP, explained the rationale for the symposium. It was organized with the idea of reflecting and providing solutions to the problems of the country. He was pleased with the quality and openness of the speakers, reporting that the debate was enriching.
This symposium was attended by about a thousand young people from several municipalities in the South-East department.
