It should be noted that the courthouse was broken into on May 10. The office of the government commissioner of Port-au-Prince, Jacques Lafontant, was one of the targets of the thieves.
At least six investigating chambers were vandalized. The offices of Investigating Judge Ickenson Edumé, Judge Mathieu Chanlatte, Jean Wilner Morin, Annie Fignolé, Garry Orélien, Judge Ramoncite ACCIME…were broken into, according to the newspaper Le nouvelliste.
No detailed account of the stolen objects has been communicated in this type of action which is becoming repetitive at the courthouse.
Last April several dozen lawyers members of the Port-au-Prince Bar Association organized a sit-in in front of the official residence of Prime Minister Ariel Henry to demand the relocation of the courthouse, which has been housed since the 2010 earthquake on Harry Truman Boulevard in a space controlled by armed gangs.
