The United States recently announced sanctions against individuals involved in criminal acts in Haiti and their sponsors. The previously established list has been amended to include family members of the troublemakers and their backers. However, no names were released by the United States. Only three names: Jimmy Chérizier, alias Barbecue, Pierre Ricarhd Duplan, and Fédenel Monchéry, have been published on the U.S. Treasury Department’s website for over a year.
The United Nations also passed a unanimous resolution on October 21 sanctioning individuals in Haiti for their alleged involvement in acts of violence. Canada followed suit and announced sanctions against Haitian personalities. A decision announced by the Canadian Minister of International Development Harjit Sajjan in an exclusive interview with the media network ZoomHaitiNews and CaribbeanTélévisionNetwork.
Although they have adopted sanctions against the most important members of the government of Ariel Henry, the United States continues to blindly support the power in place.
