The civil society organizations that called on the population to demonstrate on Tuesday, March 30 against insecurity and kidnapping, said that this movement was successful considering the massive participation of the population in this day of mobilization which took place particularly in Port-au-Prince without major incidents.
The coordinator of the December 4th collective, Jean Robert Argant, praised the courage of the population who responded in large numbers to the call despite the attempts of intimidation, he said.
Other protest movements against the phenomenon of insecurity are planned in the coming days in Port-au-Prince and in other provincial cities to continue to demand from the government concrete measures to restore peace and security throughout the country, said the executive director of the Karl Levêque Center, Gardy Maisonneuve, who announced that consultations are underway with various sectors of national life to set a new mobilization schedule.
During his speech, Father Gardy Maisonneuve deplored the acts of violence that were recorded in the city of Cayes during the demonstration of March 29, where one person was killed and several others injured. He also condemned the armed attack perpetrated against former deputy Arnel Belizaire on Wednesday night in the area of Carrefour Péan in Port-au-Prince.
Father Gardy Maisonneuve invited the judicial authorities to expedite an investigation to determine and identify the perpetrators of this act.
