Pleading guilty on March 24, 2023, before U.S. Federal District Judge Jose Martinez for financing and planning the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, Rodolphe Jaar received a life sentence this Friday. The verdict was handed down by Miami Federal Judge José Martinez.
Rodolphe Jaar, of Haitian and Chilean nationality, is the first person to be sentenced to life imprisonment for the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.
Rodolphe Jaar also admitted to having paid the President’s security guards to allow the Colombian mercenaries who were going to execute President Jovenel Moïse to pass through without intervening.
Businessman Rodolphe Jaar had decided to plead guilty after negotiating a reduced sentence with the American justice system. However, he received a life sentence.
