Immigration: Mexican authorities enlisted for possible Title 42 elimination

CTN News

This Friday was held a hearing to determine the permanence or elimination of Title 42, for which they ask to be attentive.

The Human Rights Directorate of the municipality of the border city of Juárez reported that attention should be paid to the hearing, in which the permanence or elimination of Title 42 at the border with Mexico was discussed, which deports migrants from the United States without offering them an alternative to request political asylum or appear before an immigration court to present their case.

Reyes González said that if the restrictions of Title 42 were removed, it would generate misinformation among people in a mobile situation, which could lead to a greater flow of migrants into the city of Juárez, despite the fact that the border is closed.
He said that although this is a problem that falls directly under the responsibility of the federal government, the municipality of Juárez is preparing to receive more migrants, which is why it is stocking personal hygiene supplies, as well as improving the sanitary facilities in the shelter of the municipal gym Kiki Romero.

As part of this public health policy activated in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. government has deported 1.3 million migrants in the past year and a half. This is a violation of the rights of migrants to seek asylum, said Santiago González Reyes, head of the dependency.
The lawsuit against the lifting of Title 42 restrictions is led by Arizona and also includes the states of Alabama, Texas, Alaska, Arkansas, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.
May 23 is the probable date of elimination of Title 42 according to several media, but Haitian migrants in Mexico are totally pessimistic about this
