Haiti-Kidnapping: Former CEP president Pierre Louis Opont held captive

In recent days, the commune of Tabarre has become the scene of kidnappings. No fewer than five people have been kidnapped. The latest victim is Pierre Louis Opont, former president of the Provisional Electoral Council in 2015.

Members of the “Kraze baryè” gang led by Vitelhomme Innocent have been implicated in the kidnapping of Pierre Louis Opont, husband of journalist Marie Lucie Bonhomme. Bonhomme had also been kidnapped on June 13, but was released a few hours after being interrogated by the head of this criminal organization, Vitelhomme Innocent.
According to information received by Zoomhaitinews, Pierre Louis Opont was kidnapped as he was about to return to his home in Tabarre.

On Monday June 19, 2023, members of this gang kidnapped the director of the company Vorbe et Fils matériaux de construction, known as Santiago, a Costa Rican national. He was released shortly afterwards. However, the conditions of his release were not disclosed.
Last weekend, Pierre Richard Joseph, General Manager of the Cap-Haitien National Port Authority, was kidnapped in the commune of Tabarre.

The kidnappers are demanding a large sum of money in exchange for his release.
