Tras ser humillada por Inglaterra (6-2), la selección iraní de fútbol se redimió en su segundo partido.  El viernes vencieron a la Gales de Garett Bale por dos goles a cero.

Los hombres de Carlos Queiroz tuvieron una actuación extraordinaria, marcando dos valiosos goles en el tiempo añadido.

El primer gol fue obra de Rouzbeh Cheshmi en el minuto 98 con un disparo lejano.  Los iraníes aumentarían su cuenta tres minutos después con un gol de Ramin Rezaeian.

El equipo de Gales terminó el partido con 10 hombres tras la expulsión del portero Wayne Hennessey en el minuto 85 por una falta estúpida.

Con esta victoria, Irán ha dado un paso importante hacia la clasificación para los octavos de final, a la espera de los resultados del partido Inglaterra-Estados Unidos de esta tarde, a las 13:00 horas (hora de Haití).
