The 17 women incarcerated in the civil prison of Gonaives were raped by 50 inmates during the spectacular escape on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

“Our investigations reveal, early this Saturday, January 28, 2023, that these women were raped by about fifty prisoners, during the escape attempt that occurred in the afternoon of January 26, 2023,” says the note of the human rights organization, transmitted to the editorial staff of ZoomHaitiNews.
The organization headed by Mr. Michelet Dorgiles, lawyer at the bar of Gonaives, calls for a health emergency to “prevent diseases that could complicate the situation of these 17 veiled prisoners who have not been able to wash for 48 hours.
Indeed, on Thursday afternoon, January 26, a spectacular escape like a Hollywood movie occurred in the civil prison of Gonaives, during which some twenty prisoners were killed and several others escaped, according to human rights organizations and other sources close to the prison. While the government commissioner, Me Sérad Gazius, reported a provisional death toll of 14 and 11 escaped.
These events took place a few hours after the demonstrations of police officers in Gonaives to protest against the murder of 6 officers of the Unit for Maintaining Order (UDMO), Wednesday, January 25, in Liancourt, in the department of Artibonite. It should be noted that the bodies of the victims were still not recovered this Saturday, January 28.
