Eight Soldiers Killed in Colombia as Military Truck Plunges into Ravine

Eight military personnel died, and multiple others were wounded on February 23 when their army vehicle lost control and tumbled into a deep ravine in Barbacoas, Colombia, military officials reported.

Following the devastating incident, emergency response teams conducted extensive efforts to save survivors and extract the deceased victims’ remains. Video documentation shared by Benildo Estupinan, Government Secretary of Colombia’s Nariño Department, showed the ongoing rescue and recovery mission on February 24.

According to information shared with Storyful by Benildo Estupinan, the Colombian National Army’s Commander verified that twenty soldiers were extracted alive from the crash site. Officials are currently conducting an investigation to identify the factors that led to this deadly incident, with the exact cause still undetermined.

Colombian military forces regularly navigate difficult and hazardous terrain, making vehicular accidents an ongoing concern.
