The United States/Mexico draft resolution aimed at sanctioning gangs and those who finance them in Haiti was unanimously adopted this Friday by the United Nations Security Council.
The vote, which should have taken place last Wednesday, was postponed due to reservations expressed by China and Russia, two other influential members of the Security Council.
In the meantime, an agreement was reached between the representatives of these countries members of the UN Security Council. This allowed the draft resolution proposed by the United States and Mexico to be voted unanimously at the beginning of this meeting in which several items are on the agenda.
The vote of this resolution is a clear message to the actors that the international community will not stand idly by in the face of the criminal actions of those who cause so much suffering to the Haitian people, said the representative of the United States, Linda Thomas Greenfield.
