Washington, July 17, 2025 — President Donald Trump, 79, has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, an age-related condition affecting blood circulation in the legs.
The White House made the announcement Thursday after the President underwent medical examinations following mild leg swelling and visible marks on one hand, reported The Hill.
According to a memo released by spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, the President underwent a series of tests, including ultrasounds and a comprehensive vascular examination, which confirmed the presence of this condition. This ailment, common in individuals over 70, occurs when leg veins no longer effectively return blood to the heart, causing blood pooling and edema.
Recent photographs had shown bruising on the back of one of Trump’s hands, sparking speculation about his health condition. White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella explained these were benign soft tissue lesions, resulting from repeated handshakes combined with regular aspirin intake.
According to the medical statement released by the White House, the President shows no signs of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease. An echocardiogram revealed normal cardiac function, with no indication of heart failure or systemic disease. “The President experiences no discomfort,” Leavitt stated.
In an official note, Dr. Barbabella concluded that Donald Trump remains in excellent health and fit to perform his duties.
The President, who was previously declared in “excellent physical and mental condition” during his annual examination in April, continues to defy age-related concerns. If he completes his term, he will be 82 years old — a record for a sitting American president.
