Several companies denounce allegations of discrimination against Haitian migrants in Tijuana, Mexico

CTN News

Several companies based in the Otay area discriminate against Haitian migrants who apply for jobs, said Carmen García, an employee of the administrative department of a company in this area of the city of Tijuana.
In this regard, he acknowledged that many company officials reject Haitian migrants.
He explained that the most common argument for not hiring people of Haitian origin is that supposedly the signatures on the documents and their passports are not identical, so they are told that “the bank did not accept the papers because the signature is not similar” .
I have been in contact with people of Haitian nationality who are looking for a job, and in some companies in the Otay area, they put a lot of obstacles, they discriminate,” he said.

He added that there are about 10 Haitian migrants who arrive daily with their passports, CURP and Treasury registration, however, he pointed out, only one sometimes gets hired.

“Everyone looks very desperate and they have all their necessary documents, but they are told no, and the staff does nothing to help them,” Garcia concluded.

This situation is beginning to push Haitian migrants out of the city of Tijuana and into other cities in Mexico.
