The National Network of Rhesus Negative Blood Groups (RENAGSANG) announced on Friday that it was suspending all its activities to demand the release of its spokesperson, journalist Jean Thony Lorthé, as well as his brother and another relative who have been kidnapped since February 3, 2023, in Laboule 12, a neighborhood located in the heights of Petion-ville (eastern outskirts of the capital) controlled by armed groups.
Renagsang, which has honored the activities previously planned well before the kidnapping of its spokesman, deplored that until now nothing has been done despite the peaceful march organized by the Network in concert with the journalistic corporation.
“More than a fortnight after his kidnapping along with two relatives, the kidnappers are turning a deaf ear despite the various calls for his release launched by different sectors of national life. This suspension of activities is the last resort of the organization considering the humanitarian work of renagsang in which Lorthé is greatly involved,” said the National Network of rhesus-negative blood groups in a statement signed by its coordinator Nancy Lainé.
The Ranagsang recalls that between February 11 and 15 in concert with the training center in first aid and paramedics of Haiti (CEFOSEPH), 63 bags of blood were collected for the benefit of over 150 people. “We cannot continue to save lives while the life of our spokesperson is threatened. We must emphasize that this suspension will not be without consequence on the lives of hundreds of people waiting for blood bags, especially for people with rhesus negative blood”, concludes the statement.
