This process, which has seen no general elections for over a decade, is structured around two rounds of voting and numerous essential preparatory phases.
The first round of elections is set for December 13, 2026, a crucial date when Haitian voters will be called to the polls for the presidential election, legislative elections, and the popular ratification of proposed constitutional changes. This date, formalized in the CEP’s press release of July 27, 2026, represents the centerpiece of a meticulously established schedule.
The second round, scheduled for February 21, 2027, will concern the legislative elections, the presidential election, and elections for territorial collectivities. This two-round structure ensures democratic continuity and guarantees the representativeness of institutions.
Challenge Periods and Publication of Results
The transparency of the electoral process is ensured by clearly defined challenge periods. For the first round, the publication of preliminary results is scheduled for December 22, 2026, followed by a challenge period on January 9, 2027, before the final results are published on the same day.
For the second round, preliminary results will be published on February 22, 2027, with a challenge period open until March 6, 2027. The final results for the legislative and presidential elections will be proclaimed on March 7, 2027, while those for territorial collectivities will be announced on March 12, 2027.
The electoral process has already undergone several important phases. Communication, awareness-raising, and civic education began on February 1, 2026, and will continue until March 17, 2027, reflecting the importance placed on informed citizen participation.
The establishment of departmental vote tabulation offices was carried out between April 14 and November 30, 2026, while the accreditation of observers and journalists took place from July 3 to August 18, 2026. The registration of political groups and voter registration were also completed, with the latter phase concluding on October 13, 2026.
The CEP has clearly emphasized that compliance with these deadlines depends on two essential prerequisites: the establishment of an acceptable security climate and the availability of necessary financial resources. The organization of elections constitutes a shared responsibility among all stakeholders, involving the commitment of the government, national actors, and international partners.
