Actualmente se está debatiendo en el seno de la administración Biden la prórroga y la nueva designación del Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) para los haitianos que se encuentran ilegalmente en Estados Unidos.

Según funcionarios de la administración de Joe Biden, se tomará una decisión antes del 4 de junio.

El Estatus de Protección Temporal de Haití expirará el próximo agosto.

La decisión de terminarlo o prorrogarlo debe tomarse antes del 4 de junio de 2024. Esta decisión se basará en la situación actual de Haití, según informaron funcionarios del gobierno estadounidense en una reunión en línea con miembros de la diáspora haitiana el martes.

Según funcionarios del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS, por sus siglas en inglés) citados por Associated Press, más de 105.000 inmigrantes haitianos deberían ser elegibles para un nuevo TPS si la administración estadounidense decide una nueva redistribución.
