Ottawa to send Royal Canadian Navy ships to Haiti in coming weeks

CTN News

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau himself made the announcement on Thursday in a speech delivered at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) annual meeting in Nassau, Bahamas.

In excerpts from this speech reported by Radio Canada, the head of the Canadian government said that the military would be deployed “in the coming weeks”.
The mission of these ships will be to conduct surveillance, gather intelligence and maintain a presence off the Haitian coast, the Canadian official explained.

Last week, a Canadian military aircraft flew over Haitian territory in order to better map the gang territories in Haiti. This aircraft type CP-140 Aurora of the Royal Canadian Air Force was to support the efforts of the Haitian National Police to restore security in the country. The CP-140 Aurora is a long-range patrol aircraft with an impressive flight range and a suite of advanced sensors that combine to make it a highly effective surveillance platform.
It should also be noted that the country is facing an exponential explosion of acts of violence. Several acts of kidnapping are recorded daily, national roads are no longer accessible with negative consequences on the soaring prices of basic commodities and the free movement of goods and people.
