Mexico’s leadership stands firm in its commitment to safeguard its nationals residing in the United States, particularly during the challenging Trump administration.

The Mexican authorities have unveiled a new smartphone application intended to assist Mexican immigrants who may face detention by American immigration officials, as reported by the Associated Press.

This development comes in direct response to President-elect Donald Trump’s declared plans to implement widespread deportations of unauthorized immigrants from U.S. territory.

At a media briefing, Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente explained the application’s key functions.

“The system allows users to send an immediate alert to the closest consulate when facing imminent arrest,” he explained.

The application simultaneously notifies the user’s family members and the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ensuring swift assistance and diplomatic intervention.

Set to be released in January, the application demonstrates Mexico’s active stance in defending its citizens living abroad.

Statistics from the Pew Research Center indicate approximately four million unauthorized Mexican immigrants currently reside in the United States.

Beyond maintaining its network of 50 consulates across the United States, Mexico is collaborating with neighboring nations, including Guatemala and Honduras, to establish emergency protocols for potential deportation scenarios, according to the Associated Press.

De la Fuente revealed plans for an upcoming diplomatic meeting involving various nations with substantial migrant populations to discuss strategies addressing Trump’s proposed immigration policies.

Trump, who intends to declare a national emergency along the U.S.-Mexico border, describes the migrant situation as an “invasion.” He specifically aims to deport millions of undocumented residents.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized her administration’s work on preparing documentation that showcases Mexican workers’ vital role in sustaining the American economy.
