Mexico/Immigration: Nearly 2,000 Haitians registered with INAMI in the Baja-California region

CTN News

About 2,000 Haitian migrants have registered with the office of the National Institute of Migration (INAMI) in Baja-Californa to apply for regularization in Mexico, said the Secretary General of the state government, Catalino Zavala Márquez.

He mentioned that he does not know how many of them have crossed the border to the United States and how many have chosen to stay in the Aztec country. This is because there is no official information to confirm it.

About 300 migrants gathered last Wednesday in the Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood. Where they received advice on political asylum procedures by Pastor Alfred Guerrier. However, this event has generated misinformation and total confusion in the said population, Catalino Zavala assured.

Regarding these political asylum procedures, he said he does not know how many migrants have managed to enter the United States. However, he mentioned that the National Institute of Migration has registered 2,000 Haitians who have requested legal regularization in Mexico.

Finally, he called on the Haitian community to take into account the indications of the INAMI, as well as organizations such as the Mexican Commission for Aid to Refugees (COMAR) and the International Organization for Migrants (IOM).
