Mexico: A new camp for Haitian migrants emerges in Tijuana

CTN News

The Franciscan missionaries of the House of the Poor have given them a space to stay in the densely populated neighborhood located in the area “El Pedregal de Santa Julia”. At the moment, there are about 300 Haitian migrants living in several tents. They prepare their food and organize the sanitary space, cleanliness and water distribution.

Although they are almost 5,000 kilometers from their homeland in Tijuana, they have formed a community. In addition to having the same country of origin, they share a common bond of migration and all plan to reach the United States.

However, at the border of Tijuana and San Diego, they could not move forward. They were confronted with the Title 42 still in effect and had no other option. Considering that 1,200 Haitians who entered the U.S. illegally have already been sent back to their country.
While waiting for a miracle, these migrants are looking for work in Mexico to move forward, but they are facing all kinds of discrimination and mistreatment.
