Melbourne Open: Naomi Osaka forfeits the tournament
Naomi Osaka has declared her withdrawal from the rest of the tournament in Melbourne. The Japanese of Haitian origin suffers from an injury to the abdomen.
In order not to aggravate her case for the Australian Open, she decided to withdraw, qualifying Veronika Kudermetova for the final without playing.
The current 13th player in the world has not played since her defeat in the third round of the US Open in September 2021.
She must defend her title at the first Major of the year, scheduled from January 17 to 30.
