Starting next month, immigrants seeking asylum in the United States may no longer have to wait in Mexico, according to BuzzFeed

Joe Biden’s administration is considering removing Title 42 from next month, according to BuzzFeed.

According to a document from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the government is preparing to tell Mexican authorities that they will no longer need to enforce the Section 265 Title 42 health law to prevent immigrants from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. This could lead to an increase in the flow of migrants into the United States, the Department of Homeland Security predicts, according to BuzFeed.

Title 42 was put forward by Donald Trump’s administration to keep migrants out of the United States citing health concerns related to the Coronavirus. Thanks to this health law, immigrants wishing to enter the United States were either turned away in Mexico or in their country of origin. They were also forced to apply for asylum in Mexico. The few immigrants whose cases were deemed credible were allowed to return to Joe Biden’s country.  This is a flagrant violation of the rights of asylum seekers, according to immigrant rights organizations in the United States.

Applying Litre 42, the US government of Joe Biden had deported thousands of Haitian migrants from under the Del Rio pond in Texas in September 2021. The American authorities fear that with the withdrawal of this health law, Haitians with temporary residence permits in Mexico could take advantage of crossing the border to the United States, according to what BuzzFeed revealed.

For now, the Biden-Aris administration intends to focus on Russian and Ukrainian immigrants trying to enter the US via the southern border, BuzzFeed added. The administration intends to ask Mexican authorities to require visas for all Russian immigrants attempting to cross the border. A sharp increase in migrants from Ukraine and Russia is being reported by the U.S. government, the newspaper said.

Unlike Haitians, these European immigrants are treated very favorably by the American authorities.
