Haitian-American Congresswoman Sheilla Cherfilus McCormick has won the primary election in Florida’s 20th district.
She received more than 65% of the vote against only 29% for her immediate rival Dale Holness and 6% for Anica Omphroy, according to partial results.
More than 85% of the votes are already counted.
Sheilla Cherfilus McCormick will have the opportunity to present the voters of the Twentieth District with a full term in the mid-term elections this November.
She was elected in the special election in January 2022.
Ms. Cherfilus McCormick is one of the strongest advocates for Haitians in the US Congress. She is a member of the Haitian Caucus in the lower house.
