The journalists of the radio station Vision 2000 are observing a work stoppage as of this Friday, February 17, in order to demand the release of their colleague Jean Thony Lorthé, who was kidnapped on February 3, along with his brother Odner Lorthé and a close family member. The kidnappers are demanding a high ransom of 200,000 U.S. dollars that the family cannot afford to pay.
Other journalists hope that other colleagues and media outlets will take similar decisions to not only obtain the release of the press worker and his two relatives, but also to denounce the phenomenon of kidnapping that is raging in the country.
Insecurity has reached its peak for some time in Haiti where no one is spared. Bandits operate in the Haitian capital and in other provincial cities, pushing many more people to flee the country by any means. The population is still waiting for the authorities to take drastic decisions against all those who sow grief and impoverish peaceful and honest citizens.
