The armed coalition “G9 an fanmi e alye”, and all the gang groups operating throughout the national territory, especially in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, are demanding an amnesty from the government to unblock the Varreux terminal, reports Jean Rebel Dorcénat.
In an interview with Radio Kiskeya on Thursday, October 13, 2022, the head of the National Commission for Disarmament and Reintegration provided details on the demands of armed gangs in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.
According to the head of the CNDDR, the criminals of the federation of gangs say they are ready to negotiate with the government in place to find a solution to the crisis. The “G9 an fanmi e alye” coalition and other armed groups in the country are demanding the cancellation of all warrants issued against their members and the total clearing of their crimes, as well as a place in the government. However, no official request has been made, said Jean Rebel Dorcénat.
He was keen to point out that the National Commission for Disarmament and Reincarnation has its limitations and will not be able to make an official request for the gangs to the state authorities. “Justice must be done to the victims,” said the head of the CNDDR.
He said that the national commission for disarmament and reintegration is currently working on a national strategy plan and a draft law proposal.
For several weeks, the “G9 an fanmi e alye” group has controlled the Varieux terminal and prevented fuel distribution in the country.
The members of the G9 coalition led by former police officer Jimmy Chérisier made a show of force last Monday in several areas of the metropolitan area including at the bottom of Delmas and on the Toussaint Louverture Boulevard without being worried by the police who were conspicuous by their absence.
