The General Administration of Customs (AGD) has mobilized 6.5 billion gourdes during the month of December 2021 despite the deterioration of the overall situation of the country. 6.5 billion gourdes collected is a historical record in terms of contribution to Haitian public finances, AGD officials said.
The General Directorate of Customs indicated that this increase in revenue is due to better control at the level of the various fields of collection, including the verification fees and the tax on turnover. The 6.5 billion dollars mobilized are divided as follows: 4.9 billion gourdes for tax revenue and 1.6 billion gourdes for revenue from conceded rights. They account for 75% and 25% of the amounts collected by the General Customs Administration, respectively.
This performance is also the result of the efforts made by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the implementation of the plan to rationalize tax expenditures, which have enabled the AGD to mobilize 1.6 billion gourdes from conceded duties.
The performance achieved by the General Administration of Customs reflects the will of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, the Minister of Economy and Finance Michel Patrick Boisvert and the collaboration of the Haitian National Police in the fight against smuggling and corruption.
The Director General of the AGD Romel Bell says he wants to strengthen the capacity of the institution within the framework of the customs reform and that of public finance in order to create a synergy within the customs offices to significantly improve their performance and respond effectively to their missions in a logic of improving public services.
