The correction of official baccalaureate exams in the South-East department was interrupted three (3) days ago by the correctors in order to demand from the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) an increase in service fees.
These teachers are observing this work stoppage in order to protest against the salary grid in the work contract imposed by the Ministry of National Education, according to the representative of the teachers’ union of the South-East department, Wilfrid Lauture. He believes that it is unacceptable that teachers earn 37 thousand gourdes by doing a difficult job, stressing that such a sum can not meet the cost of living, recalling that teachers are affected at several levels by the socio-economic crisis of the country.
He said that this money can not even cover the cost of transportation due to the shortage of gasoline in the market. Or even pay for accommodation and buy food.
On the other hand, the representative of the teachers’ union of the Southeast criticized the way the Ministry of National Education and the departmental management of the department treat teachers in the correction space, denouncing in the process the lack of logistics that forces the correctors to work in poor conditions. “The space is not suitable for the reception of teachers. There is no comfortable accommodation because the space is invaded by goats or dogs disturbing. There are not enough benches for the graders to sit” laments the unionist.
Wilfrid Lauture invites the Departmental Director of National Education of the South-East, Roc Occène, to take into account the demands of teachers so that the Ministry can find a solution to the situation. He promises to continue the movement until a new decision is adopted.
This situation leaves in indifference (for now) the representatives of the departmental direction of the South-East of the national education which did not react yet.
