The new day of mobilization in Miragoâne this Monday, August 29, 2022 almost turned sour. The protesters who wanted to go to the center of the city of Miragoâne were dispersed with tear gas by agents of the national police. In reaction, they threw stones at the police. The latter proceeded to the arrest of at least 5 demonstrators.
It must be said that some of the protesters took the direction of the office of the departmental delegation of Nippes located in Berquin and were able to deliver their message. These thousands of citizens of the city of Fernand Hibbert have walked on the tarmac to continue to denounce the high cost of living, insecurity, kidnapping, the devaluation of the gourde and the scarcity of fuel. They walked from Carrefour la croix to Chalon, and from Chalon to Berquin.
Speaking to ZoomHaitiNews, these demonstrators deplored the behavior of the police who used tear gas to break up a peaceful movement. They accuse the government of Ariel Henry who, they say, charges the police with standing up to their demands.
