Under the initiative of the Regroupement des enseignants du bas Nord-Ouest, REBNO, hundreds of citizens, (students, academics, teachers and parents), demonstrated peacefully on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 in Jean Rabel, in order to demand that the authorities take their responsibilities after the kidnapping of more than 80 passengers last Saturday aboard the Saint Jean-Baptiste Bus, in La Croix Perisse, Artibonite.
The demonstrators are calling for the release of the hostages who are mostly students.
They deplore the lack of commitment of the police authorities who have not done much to eradicate the phenomenon in the area of La Croix Perisse but also at the level of Tibwadòm which constitutes a real ordeal for the users of the road linking the North-West to Artibonite.
This demonstration contradicts the police authorities of Artibonite who had declared to Zoom Haiti News on Monday that they had freed all the hostages and hunted down their kidnappers. This has not been the case according to the protesters who draw attention to the inhumane treatment suffered by the kidnapped, victims of all kinds of brutality and rape.
