Bernard Mevs Hospital decided to close its doors in solidarity with the Haitian Society of Pediatrics (HSP), to protest against the kidnapping of Dr. Bennety Augustin, in captivity for over 12 days and demand his release.
In a press release sent to Zoomhaitinews, the administration of the hospital informs that its doors will be closed on Thursday 19, Friday 20 and Saturday 21 May.
However, an emergency cell will be open only for extreme emergencies writes the hospital administration.

We are tired of being the prey of kidnappers, while we risk our lives to save those of others. No to insecurity,” the note concludes.
Insecurity continues to bring its flood of bad news. Most recently, in April, Doctors Without Borders announced the temporary suspension of its activities at the Drouillard Emergency and Stabilization Center in Cité Soleil, due to a lack of security guarantees for its staff and patients. This medical structure has already closed the doors of several of its institutions in the country due to the deteriorating security situation. In August 2021, Doctors Without Borders announced the closure of its facility in Martissant because of armed violence, after 15 years of continuous presence in this area.

The private referral hospital Bernard Mevs had already closed its doors last November, but that was due to the persistent shortage of gasoline.

No sector is spared by armed bandits. Many doctors and other professionals from various backgrounds have been kidnapped since the scourge of kidnapping worsened in the country.
