Two of the 17 colombian inmates incarcerated at the national penitentiary for their alleged involvement in the assassination of Jovenel Moïse are currently being heard by the investigating judge Walter Wesser Voltaire.
They are Naiser Franco Castañeda and Jhon Jairo Alegria Suarez, according to their lawyer, Attorney Natalie Délisca.
The session was interrupted due to heavy gunfire in the vicinity of the courthouse. The investigating magistrate had to adjourn the session to continue on Tuesday, as reported by the CaribbeantelevisionNetwork news team.
Starting this Monday, two Colombian detainees are to be questioned each day as part of the investigation into the case of the assassination of former President Jovenel Moïse.
Since the assassination of Jovenel Moïse two years ago, Colombian nationals have been admitted to the National Penitentiary without being heard by a judge, a matter that the Maisonnoeuvre law firm has deplored. The firm is collaborating with the Quintero Lopez law firm in Colombia.
The representatives of the detainees denounce the detention conditions at the national penitentiary. The detainees are in a deplorable state. They are malnourished and require medical care, according to Maître Delisca of the Maisonnoeuvre and Associés law firm, which represents the 17 Colombians accused of involvement in the assassination of Mr. Moïse.
No human being should be subjected to such inhumane conditions, regrets Maître Delisca, who wishes to demand the withdrawal of the investigating judge Walter Wesser Voltaire from the case and to solicit medical assistance for her clients, who suffer from diseases such as tuberculosis.
It should be noted that the Colombian Germán Alejandro Rivera García was transferred to the United States on January 31, 2023, along with three other American suspects of Haitian origin, namely James Solages, Joseph Vincent, and Christian Sanon.
These individuals are accused of being part of the commando that assassinated Jovenel Moïse at his residence during the night of July 7, 2021.
The investigating judge will also have to audition several other personalities, including the de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henri, who is under investigation in connection with the assassination of Jovenel Moïse.
