Boston Preliminary Election: Mayor Michelle Wu and Haitian-American City Councillor Ruthzee Louijeune Lead the Field

The preliminary results of Boston’s municipal elections confirm the broad trends indicated by earlier polls. Incumbent Mayor Michelle Wu leads decisively with 66,398 votes, or 71.84% of the total, followed by entrepreneur Josh Kraft, who received 21,324 votes, or 23.07%. Both candidates advance to the November general election, with Wu holding a clear advantage.

In the race for City Councillor-at-Large, Haitian-American Ruthzee Louijeune, the current City Council President, continues to make history in Boston politics. Louijeune dominated a field of more than ten candidates, underscoring her popularity and leadership position. Two additional candidates of Haitian descent also secured places on the ballot for the general election, albeit in less commanding positions.

U.S. Army veteran Marvin Dee Mathelier finished seventh with 13,826 votes, or 5.69%, while fellow Haitian-American Yves Mary Jean placed ninth with 7,419 votes, or 3.05%. Four seats will be filled in the general election in November.

In District 5, Haitian-born Winston Pierre also advanced to the general election, receiving 2,954 votes, or 23.44%, trailing far behind incumbent Enrique Pepen, who collected 8,008 votes, or 63.54%.

Mayor — Overall Results: Michelle Wu Commands a Significant Lead

According to unofficial preliminary results released on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Mayor Michelle Wu secured a decisive victory. A total of 93,168 ballots were cast in the preliminary election. The results below cover all reported precincts for the mayoral race, City Councillor-at-Large, and five city council districts.
