WINTER STORM WARNING: Heavy snow, dangerous travel reported from Western New York to Central New York as snow, sleet, and gusty winds remain

Heavy snow associated with Upstate New York’s first major winter storm in nearly two seasons arrived last night. While snow is light-to-moderate for the time being, heavier snow is expected later this morning and during the afternoon hours.

WINTER STORM WARNING: The National Weather Service has continued the Winter Storm Warning through the evening hours. The entire Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions is included. Even with sleet mixing in overnight- 8-18 inches of accumulation is expected when the storm concluded tonight.

  • Snowfall rates will intensify again later this morning after lightening up during the late-night and early-morning hours.
  • Strengthening wind gusts starting mid-day Monday will cause blowing and drifting.
  • Reduced visibility will be common. Travel may become difficult in areas with ongoing heavy snowfall, deep snow cover, and gusty winds.
  • If you must venture out, carry extra supplies such as blankets, shovels, flashlights, water, and food.
