The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning for parts of New England, beginning Saturday, February 8, at 7:00 PM EST and lasting until Sunday, February 9, at 1:00 PM EST.

The warning applies to northern Connecticut, most of Massachusetts east of the Berkshires (excluding Cape Cod and the islands), and nearly all of Rhode Island except Block Island.

Snowfall and Travel Impact

Forecasters expect heavy snowfall, with accumulations ranging from 4 to 7 inches (10 to 18 cm). The storm could create hazardous travel conditions, making roads difficult to navigate. Officials advise those who must travel to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water.

• Rhode Island: Northwest and Southeast Providence, Western and Eastern Kent, Bristol, Washington, Newport

According to Ready.gov, winter storm warnings are issued when significant snowfall, ice accumulation, or dangerous sleet conditions are expected. These alerts typically come 12 to 24 hours before the storm begins to allow time for preparation (ready.gov).

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through weather updates and take precautions to remain safe during the storm.
