When Ariel Henry doesn’t care about anyone

The de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who was appointed by President Jovenel Moïse before being assassinated, does not care about the Haitian people, even more about the vulnerable segments of society, considering the sequence of events marking his year in power. Since his arrival at the Prime Minister’s Office, as the only person in charge of the executive power, the head of government has only multiplied his addresses to the nation, trips abroad, demagogic meetings with a fringe of the unconverted political opposition, thus leaving misery, unemployment, insecurity, kidnapping, massacres of civilians by gangs, to eat away at the population.

Let’s go back to some facts. In his address to the nation on July 19, 2021, the Prime Minister reiterated before the nation what he believes to be a firm condemnation of the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, even giving the assurance that all light will be shed and that the culprits and their sponsors will be held accountable for their actions.

One year after this great historic plot against Jovenel Moïse, instead of a justice file that is taking its course, nothing concrete has been done, on the Haitian side. Except that up to five judges, one after the other, had to be appointed to investigate the case. Not to mention the fact that the wife of the president, Martine Moïse, found the neurosurgeon to be involved in the assassination of her husband, obstructing the case before the courts. Worse still, the courthouse, after the assassination, suffered repeated burglaries, before finally being taken over by bandits controlling the area from Martissant to Bicentenaire.

The de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry and his Minister of the Interior Litszt Quitel even dared, without embarrassment, to pretend that they were not aware of this latest assault by the bandits.

What is worse, ironically, more than 12 months after the brutal and total elimination of the president from political life, during his address to the nation on July 20, 2022, Ariel Henry did not even mention the status of the file in Justice. Even though the case is not moving forward!

President Jovenel Moïse, once assassinated, the power must follow its course. It must be recognized, from the beginning, the former Minister of the Interior of the Haitian Tèt Kale Party (PHTK) between 2013 and 2015, was clear in his mission. To lead a provisional government by organizing elections. We are still on July 19, 2021. He made this clear after being freshly invested in power.

The proponents of the Montana Accords – Expanded PEN and allies – will have to understand that Ariel Henry has no other mission in mind. They will either come to terms with it, or they will force the Prime Minister to change course. In the meantime, people are dying in the country every day. Because of poverty, insecurity, or gang warfare.

While we’re at it, let’s see what the head of the Superior Council of the National Police said, 4 days after the devastating earthquake of August 14, 2021, when talking about security. We will ensure security at the southern entrance of the capital for the passage of convoys to the areas affected by the earthquake of August 14, 2021, said Ariel Henry.

More than a year later for the neurosurgeon, it is likely that reality escapes his attention at some level. Gangs are multiplying, taking up a lot more territory, killing a lot more people, having a lot of power. Probably much more than the authorities that are supposed to guarantee the protection of lives and property. Yet, the Prime Minister’s office only trumpets Elections, Elections, Elections.

In his address to the nation on July 20, 2022,
the Prime Minister was able to unearth the same refrain again. “I am not going to give you an assessment of the last twelve months. I will leave that to others and I will take into consideration all the constructive criticism that will be made,” said the Prime Minister. A review? Oh no, that would be shooting ourselves in the foot. The living conditions of Haitians have worsened dramatically. The economic indicators are obvious: inflation, unemployment, depreciation of the gourde, insecurity, kidnapping, illicit firearms trafficking, misery and the decline of public institutions. Nothing is going well in the country anymore.

It is well known that Ariel Henry swears by the realization of elections in order to transmit the power as soon as possible, to elected officials freely chosen by a majority of Haitians, according to his words. This must essentially involve the restoration of peace and the free movement of people and goods. The Prime Minister said it again loud and clear in his last address to the nation on July 20, 2022. Without this, to begin with, there can be no elections. It seems that the head of the Supreme Council of the National Police really wants honest, credible and transparent elections to take place in the country.

Many citizens may find themselves wondering whether Ariel Henry ever hears himself speak. Because, having had a year at the helm of the State, being head of the CSPN, considering the situation of very high insecurity in Martissant, Croix des Bouquets, Croix des Missions, Pernier, Torcel, Laboule, Cité Soleil, one realizes that the authorities do not care about what the population lives. However, they continue to chant Security, Free Movement, Elections … If it is true that for a balance sheet, the government team of Ariel Henry, joined by a group of politicians who have taken the skin of fierce opponents of Jovenel Moïse during his lifetime, have been able to achieve at least five addresses to the nation, to throw on the air words, which so far have not come down to earth, the nerve, it must be.

And to top it all off, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office announced that his government would have to gradually increase the price of gasoline at the pump, due to the increase in prices on the international market. That’s it!
