On Monday October 2, 2023, the United Nations Security Council met to discuss the security situation in Haiti, in particular the resolution drafted by the United States and Ecuador concerning the deployment of a multinational force in the country. At the end of these discussions, the council members approved the resolution, which authorizes the deployment of a security force in Haiti. Called the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS), it will be led by Kenya and will work alongside the Haitian National Police to combat armed gangs and re-establish security in the country.

13 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while two abstained. In this case, the resolution was approved by the UN Security Council.

It should be noted (for the time being) that no date has yet been set for the deployment of the multinational force in Haiti, in a context where armed gangs are taking the law into their own hands and terrorizing the civilian population.
The video version of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s press conference was prepared by Emmanuel Paul and our producer Kemy Nehemy Gay.
